FAQ's
How long has 100 + WWC been in the Cleveland Metro area?
100+ Women Who Care - Cleveland Metro was organized in July 2010 by Joey Frebes and Kassy Wyman, both community members born and raised in the Greater Cleveland area.
Which organizations are allowed to be sponsored?
In order to be considered at a meeting, the organization must be based in the Greater Cleveland area (Cuyahoga, Lake, and Lorain counties including surrounding areas). The organization must be a non-profit entity recognized as a 501(c) (3) and must have been previously established for at least one year (no start-ups). Donations benefiting national charities will not be considered, unless there is a local group affiliation and the donation will only benefit the greater Cleveland area. If there is an urgent community emergency at the time of the meeting, it may be presented as one of the choices upon pre-approval from chapter leadership.
What is a 501(c)(3)?
A 501(c)(3) is generally defined as "exemptions that apply to corporations, and any community chest, fund or foundation, organized and operated exclusively for religious, charitable, scientific, testing for public safety, literary, educational purposes, to foster national or international amateur sports competition, promote the arts, or for the prevention of cruelty to children or animals." However, for the purposes of 100+ Women Who Care all groups up for consideration must be local.
Is my contribution tax deductible?
Yes, your contribution is tax deductible if made payable to a 501(c) (3) organization. Checks are written directly to the local organization NOT to 100+ Women Who Care. Please contact your tax advisor or visit the IRS website for further information.
How is the organization that receives the donation chosen?
A member who has signed the Commitment Form can put the name of a local organization into the fishbowl for a random drawing at the meeting. The organizers of the meeting will collect the names of the organizations from the members as they arrive. At random, three organizations will be selected from the fish bowl just before the meeting begins. The members who wrote down each name will be asked to come up and give a short five minute presentation as to why their chosen organization should receive the donation and then spend and additional five minutes for Q & A. We encourage all members to participate!!
What if I cannot attend a meeting?
If a member cannot attend a meeting she has options in providing her donation. One, she can send in a blank, signed check with a trusted friend to the meeting (preferred). The friend will write in the name of the charity that is chosen on the check and give it to the organizers on her behalf. The friend may not vote on behalf of the absent member. We can only count the votes of members who are present at the meeting. Secondly the member will receive a post meeting e-mail with information regarding the winning charity and where to send the check. The member can then mail in her check where we will then bring it along with the others to the charity.
Can I just send the donation to the charity myself?
Our preference is to make a large donation on behalf of the whole group. We want to be able to support this endeavor and give $10,000+ dollars at a time to make a large impact in our community, with each member's donation being part of the larger donation. We also need to be able to track your donations so that you get credit for the donation and remain eligible for submitting charities and voting at meetings.
How long do the meetings last?
Meetings are intended to be very short, generally lasting approximately 45 minutes but no longer than 60 minutes. However, you may come to the meeting early in order to spend some time socializing and getting to know other members, or stay after the meeting to enjoy dinner!
Can I bring a guest to the meeting?
Yes! You may invite a friend at anytime and especially to our July meetings which is our Member-Guest meeting. However, if your friend wants to cast a vote after hearing the presentations she will need to sign a Commitment Form and become a member.
Can my employer match my contribution?
Yes, many employers make matching employee contributions dollar for dollar. Contact your employer to see if they have a matching contribution program. You may submit the form along with your check.
If the charitable organization that I want to present has received funding in the past from our chapter can I or another member present that organization a second time?
If a charitable organization has received funding in the past, either from our chapter or from another local 100+ WWC chapter or 100+ Men Who Care chapter - this fact must be disclosed during the presentation. Also, the organization will only be allowed for consideration after a two year vesting period AND if there are not enough NEW charitable organizations in the fish bowl.
